Law Enforcement Specialist (Behavioral Science Instructor)

Being a Law Enforcement Specialist (Behavioral Science Instructor) makes you a valuable member of the FLETC team and mission. This position is located in the First Responder Application of Behavioral Science Branch (RAB), Behavioral Science Division (BSD), Technical Training Operations Directorate, in Glynco, GA. You will serve as an instructor which involves planning and conducting classroom, laboratory, and/or field instruction sessions as part of BSD training programs. Typical duties include:
Using life experiences from law enforcement to enhance course content and respond to student questions. Exercises a high degree of judgment when interjecting personal experiences into the structured training program to supplement and expand instruction while staying within the content of the lesson plan. Teaching a variety of courses designed to enhance law enforcement skills. Conducting training classes for personnel and plans, coordinates and executes field training and lab exercises. Liaising with partner organizations to ensure continuous planning, delivery, and accountability of programs. Conducting research on emerging technology, practices, and techniques to enhance instructional knowledge and skill. Under the guidance of a senior instructor, participates in developing program/course material in the BSD instructional field. Initiates suggestions and recommendations for program/course content changes and develops different approaches and methods of instruction. Writing curriculum summaries based upon research for use in updating existing course material and in providing updated student lesson plans. Participating in ad hoc committees made up of representatives of the agency and other agencies concerned with training policies and academic requirements. In order to be considered for this position you must:
A. Possess experience as a sworn law enforcement officer or agent with full arrest authority in the prevention, detection, apprehension, detention and/or investigation of felony and/or misdemeanor violations of federal, state, local, tribal, or military criminal laws; -OR-B. Have held a federal civilian position in the 1801 occupational series. SPECIALIZED
Experience:
In addition to the Selective Placement Factor, you must possess at least one year of current specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level performing law enforcement investigations which includes at least two of the following:
1. Interviewing/interrogating suspects, witnesses, and victims; and/or detecting deception; and/or credibility assessment/source validation; and/or statement documentation and analysis; and/or conflict/critical incident stress management -OR- 2. Developing and instructing law enforcement training curriculum in the behavioral sciences topical area. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps and AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.Note:

To be eligible for secondary coverage, an employee must:
o Transfer without a break in service exceeding 3 days directly from a primary position to a secondary position; ANDo Be continuously employed in a secondary position since moving from a primary position; except a break in employment in secondary positions that begins with an involuntary separation (not for cause) and/or voluntary breaks in service that began prior to January 20, 1988.Transfer Requirement for FERS:
To be eligible for secondary coverage, an employee must:
o Transfer without a break in service exceeding 3 days directly from a primary position to a secondary position; AND o Have completed 3 years of service in a primary position, including any such service during which no FERS deductions were withheld; ANDo Be continuously employed in a secondary position since moving from a rigorous position; except a break in employment in secondary positions that begins with an involuntary separation (not for cause). The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
